Job Description

Summary:
In support of the educational mission of the College, the Vice President for Student Affairs (VPSA) serves as the chief student affairs officer for the College and provides institutional leadership for a variety of student development services and programs. The VPSA is responsible for the development and implementation of the Division's strategic plan and has direct oversight of the following departments: Athletics and Recreation, Counseling Center, the Holy Cross Experience Course, Student Health Services, Multicultural and International Student Programs, Residence Life, Campus Activities, Commuter Life and New Student Orientation and Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students/Title IX Coordinator. In addition, the VPSA works collaboratively across divisions to assist the College community in achieving strategic initiatives related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Understand, support, and promote the mission of the College and provide institutional leadership on student development
2. Serve as a member of the senior leadership team and assist the President in strategic planning, decision making, crisis management, and communication
3. Provide leadership and direction to staff within the Division to foster an atmosphere that supports student retention and success, foster the holistic development of the student, demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and encourage the religious values and academic mission of the College
4. Serve as a critical leader in fostering a campus culture in which differences are embraced and work to advance the College's mission of diversity, equity, and inclusion through actively creating, supporting, and carrying out college-wide diversity initiatives
5. Assist in developing, executing, and assessing the College’s strategic goals and diversity initiatives.
6. Develop, implement, and assess the Division's strategic plan
7. Oversee the development, communication, and ongoing review of all policies and procedures within the Division to meet student needs, as well as ensure alignment with ethical standards and legal parameters
8. To ensure compliance with federal and Commonwealth legal and regulatory requirements as they relate to student life, including but not limited to Title IX, WAVA, FERPA, Pennsylvania Sexual Assualt Prevention Act, Drug-Free Campus Act.
9. Oversees the development with student leaders of vibrant and diverse activities and programs to enhance student engagement.
10. Prepare and manage the divisional budget, including the approval of all departmental budgets
11. Provide direction for the student conduct process and serve as the appellate officer for all student conduct violations including Sexual Harassment/Title IX
12. Coordinate crisis response for the Student Affairs Division and assure Student Affairs representation on the Emergency Management Team.
13. Oversee the Student Affairs assessment effort and serve as divisional liaison to accreditation efforts
14. Work closely with the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs to facilitate effective and efficient communication across the divisions that facilitates student success
15. Oversee the recruitment, orientation, development, and evaluation of Student Affairs staff
16. Participate in the life of the College as a member of the senior leadership through attendance at major College events, such as Orientation, Family and Friends Weekend, Admission Open Houses, Convocation and Baccalaureate Mass, and Commencement
17. Work closely with the Institutional Advancement Division to develop and implement philanthropic initiatives pertaining especially to Student Affairs and Athletics
18. Represent the Division on College committees and task forces as needed

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• VPSA has direct supervision of the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students, the Associate Vice President and Executive Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation, the Director of the Student Health Center, the Director of the Counseling Center, and an Executive Assistant. In addition, the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students supervises the Associate Dean of Students for Residence Life, the Director of Student Activities and Orientation, and the Director of Multicultural and International Student Programs. VPSA is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the College’s policies and applicable laws.

Qualifications:
• A holistic philosophy for student development that is aligned with the College’s Holy Cross and Catholic mission
• Experience in building and leading programs and services that anticipate and address moral, social, religious, and mental health concerns of a diverse student body
• Proven commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and demonstrated success in working with students and staff from underrepresented populations
• Demonstrated experience in staff development and supervision
• Excellent financial and supervisory skills
• Ability to build partnerships both internally and externally to advance the mission of the College and meet goals set for Division
• Strong crisis intervention skills
• Ability to promote collaboration and teamwork and involve key stakeholders in the decision-making process
• Strong communication (both written and verbal), organizational, and interpersonal skills

Education and/or Experience:
• Doctorate/terminal degree preferred; Master’s degree required; preference for a degree in student development, college student personnel, higher education, or related field; minimum of ten years related experience within student affairs.
