Director of Student Activities and Leadership Development

Siena College is accepting applications for the position of Director of Student Activities and Leadership Development (SALD). The Director provides dynamic educational, social and leadership activities focused on building an engaged, inclusive community. Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Student Life/Dean of Students, the Director is responsible for providing exceptional leadership; serving as a role model and facilitator for student leaders; supporting the development and success of student clubs and organizations and advocating on behalf of student leaders and organizations.

The Director maintains a visible presence on campus, must be available to work hours outside the traditional work week and is actively engaged in the creation and support of many large scale campus events. This is a live on (in a College owned house) position and will be part of an on call Administrator rotation. Anticipated start date: June 2020.

Position Summary:

Event Planning and Operations
•Directly manages all student activity programs and events;
•Oversees the day to day operations of the department including hiring, training, supervising professional and student staff (2 Assistant Directors, 1 Program Assistant 21 club coaches, 15 student staff);
•Manages/oversees all clubs and organizations including class councils, commuter council, student orientation, 14 club sports, family weekend and student government;
•Advises Student Senate;
•Manages the daily operations of the Sarazen Student Union.

Risk and Budget Management
•Prepares, administers and manages the operating budget and student activity fees (approximately $1,000,000) and expenditures related to the department while overseeing student decision making procedures;
•Works collaboratively with Business Affairs to ensure college spending and vendor contracts adhere to College policy;
•Works collaboratively with the Student Life Compliance Officer to develop and enforce policies and risk management strategies.

Assessment and Planning
•Develops short and long term goals;
•Collaborates across all College divisions to promote and execute campus events;
•Develops assessment measures relevant to student learning and engagement;
•Leads the Division’s collaborative programming and leadership development models;
•Effectively manages and directs workflow, communicates expectations and delegates work.

Requirements:
•Bachelor's degree is required (Master's degree in higher education or related field is preferred;
•A minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years of progressive administrative experience at the college level including managing large scale campus events or comparable experience;
•Evidence of strong budget management and fiscal development;
•Knowledge of best practices in student engagement and success.
